Style it Dark: Wimbledon Life Magazine Feature

It was just lovely to see our recent dark shaker kitchen design featured in the Luxury Kitchen section of Wimbledon Life magazine.

This feature details the project, design decisions and style choices that helped create a classic-looking kitchen with a cool and contemporary edge.

Dark Kitchen, Light Ideas

The charcoal colour of the kitchen cabinets is, of course, one of the most striking things about this kitchen design and this article explains what we did to ensure that the space was practical as well as stylish:

“The trend of unconventionally dark and bold colours in the kitchen has seen a rise in popularity in recent years but use of darker tones in this area of the home can present challenges in terms of lighting. In the kitchen, where food is being prepared and eaten, light should always be a priority. To combat the dramatically dark cabinets in this room, light-loving marble-effect worktops in grey Calacatta, were cut to size and installed to reflect any light that is absorbed by the darker surfaces. The sleek grey porcelain tiles used for the flooring create a similar effect.”

A Practical Family Kitchen

There were other areas of the design where the practicalities of family life were a consideration:

The modern shaker kitchen cupboards were designed and fitted from floor to ceiling, to tie in with the modest style desired by the homeowner – but also to prevent the presence of dust traps.”

As well as some luxuries that would in no doubt help make life easier and keep a tidy and uncluttered kitchen:

“An appliance cabinet with a breakfast station was designed as a solution with pantry style storage and additional worktop space with power points and automatic lighting inside. Pivoting pocket doors allow the interior of the cabinet to be fully revealed without taking up extra space in the kitchen.”

We’ve had so many great responses to this kitchen and this design continues to provide our new and potential clients with inspiration for their own homes – and that makes us very happy indeed.
